MLB The Show 26 ABS Challenge System Tips for High-Stakes Matches - NightBlade - 20.04.2026

Core Mechanics & Execution
Initiating a Challenge
Press Down on the D-Pad immediately after the umpire’s call. Only the batter, pitcher, or catcher can trigger a challenge. Timing is critical—wait too long and the opportunity is gone.
Challenge Count
Each team starts with two challenges per game. A successful challenge keeps your count intact, while an incorrect one costs a challenge.
Extra Innings
If your team runs out of challenges, you get one additional challenge at the start of each extra inning. Use it wisely, as it won’t carry over.
Availability
The ABS system is active in Road to the Show (RTTS) and Franchise modes . It is generally not present in Diamond Dynasty or online Head-to-Head (H2H), where umpires are automatically set to “Perfect.”

High-Stakes Strategy Tips
1. Target High-Impact Counts
Focus your challenges on situations that flip the advantage. Examples: 2. The “40% Certainty” Rule
In extreme moments, like a 3-2 count with bases loaded, only challenge if you are at least 40% sure the call will be overturned. Anything less and the expected value of the challenge may not be worth it.
3. Watch Specific Pitch Types 4. Manage Emotions
Don’t challenge just out of frustration. Emotional challenges often waste valuable attempts and can swing momentum against you.
5. Use Visual Aids
Enable Pitch Trail to see where a pitch crosses the strike zone. This visual guide can help you decide before reacting emotionally.

Mastering ABS challenges in high-stakes matches is about precision, patience, and timing. When used strategically, challenges can extend key at-bats, prevent strikeouts, and ultimately win games when it matters most.
